Keeping “STEM” Immigrants?

Wolfgang Pauli, a neuroscientist studying for a Ph.D. at the University of Colorado-Boulder, said it doesn’t make sense for the United States to spend a great deal of money educating foreign students, only to prevent them from staying.

Please watch the VIDEO: Senator introduces bill to keep immigrants with science degrees, legal or not, in U.S. | PRI.ORG.

What do you think? Is this a reasonable idea? Or do you think we need to think seriously before we move in this direction? Why is controlling immigration any issue any way? If you want to control crime, then control crime. Does immigration have on the whole positive or negative effects on our society? Please explain and support your answer by relying on high quality sources.

On the other hand, why are we focusing on just STEM subjects rather than focusing on anyone that is providing an overall benefit to society? Should we broaden it to include people that have jobs too?
